This intricately crafted snuffbox was made by renowned French goldsmith Daniel Gouers, who was conisdered a master of his trade. Having gained recognition from the French court, Gouers' work was favored by royalty. Gold boxes were often given by French monarchs to reward court service, with the box's value reflecting the recipient's status.
