About the Work
Brooklyn Museum Object Description
Under glass dome; made principally of hundreds of tiny sea shells, with some crustaceans (crayfish, sea horses etc.) held together by wire, glue and paper on wire base with small mosaic on gesso. Large elongated glass dome covers arrangement in basket on plinth.
CONDITION - Fair. One swag, affixed to plinth, has come loose at the end. Crayfish have decomposed; one head missing. One floral oval medallion has come loose; has fallen from arrangement into basket. Numerous small shells loose; some broken off and are resting on floor. Superficially, however, appearance is good; does not look broken.
