Statens Museum for Kunst
About the Statens Museum for Kunst
Statens Museum Kunst, also known as the SMK, is a public art museum in Copenhagen, Denmark. The contemporary SMK opened in 1896 and is today Denmark’s largest art museum. It houses over 260,000 works of art, most of them European. The museum has a particularly strong collection of Danish paintings, prints, and other fine arts. As Denmark’s largest art museum, and the primary state-designated visual arts museum in the country, it has a mission to promote visual art in Denmark and to encourage collaboration between Danish and international museums.
