About the Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum, located in Amsterdam, is the national museum of the Netherlands. The Dutch government founded the museum in 1798 in The Hague and it opened in Amsterdam in 1885.
Today, the museum houses around a million objects representing Dutch art from the 1200s to the current day. It also contains many objects taken from or representing former Dutch colonies. The museum has the most extensive collection of works by Dutch painters in the world, including a large collection of still lifes.
