About the National Gallery of Art
The National Gallery of Art is a private-public partnership established by the American Congress in 1937 in Washington D.C. with a large donation of funds and artworks by Andrew H. Mellon. It now houses over 160,000 works of art in its collection of European and American sculpture, works on paper, photographs, and decorative arts. The museum, located in is free and open to the public.
