About the Work

Curationist LogoCurationist Object Description
Master MZ (Matthäus Zasinger) was a German engraver active in the 1500s. His identity and history are debated, however Albrecht Durer's influence has been noted in his style and motifs. Memento Mori features a classical, nude female figure balancing atop a skull. She holds a sundial in one hand to represent the passage of time. A castle and town are visible in the background, similar to many of Durer's compositions.
