Acerca de la obra
The Nectarine, also known as No. 9 or Jimpuro, was a popular brothel in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan. Originally located in the city of Yokohama, the brothel was a part of the area's pleasure district of Takashima-cho. It opened in 1872 and operated in Takashima-cho until 1882, when it moved to another Yokohama district, Eiraku-cho. An unknown photographer captured the sex workers standing in the brothel's second-floor windows. Below, drivers of traditional rickshaws line the street. Nankin-machi is a tourist attraction and port town contributing to the need for transportation to and from the district. Unlike their visitors, however, the sex workers are confined to the neighborhood, living in gated facilities.
