Icebergs at Sunset, Canada

Landscape and seascape sketch showing a view of immense icebergs at sunset, witnessed during the artist's expedition to Newfoundland and Labrador. In the foreground at left, a dark wall of ice descends vertically to a flatter, craggy section at center, which immediately ascends again to form a kind of rounded pillar at center. Behind it, a tall and massive iceberg extends diagonally into the distance, forming a sort of canal at right, bounded by another craggy ice cliff at far right. Sky above filled with rosy red clouds illuminated by the setting sun, whose red-orange light reflects off of the bergs throughout the scene.
