Ink palette

This beautifully aged silver container accommodates a smooth piece of jade used in Chinese calligraphy. The ornamental details at one end lead into a basin that most likely held water. This may have allowed the writer to have greater control over the ink's saturation on the brush. It could have also aided in the removal of excess ink and water from the brush for a finer writing point.
