Acerca de la obra

Curationist LogoDescripción de objeto de Curationist

This seedpod-shaped bowl features a contrast between the graceful curved form of the round vessel, and the intricately painted geometric designs. Lewis coated the pot with white slip, then painted the design in black with a yucca brush. Lewis, alongside other Acoma Pueblo potters, was inspired by pottery shards found in the vicinity of their community, as well as by ancient works held in museum collections. Their style has often been called a revival of pottery from the historic Mimbres culture, which similarly featured black-on-white fine-line designs.

Descripción de objeto de Brooklyn Museum
Globular bowl in the form of a seed pod with a small circular mouth (1 3/4 inches). Overall design of body is black-on-white five-pointed star, the center of which is the circular mouth. The rest of the star occupies approximately 75% of the bowl's surface and contains stepped zigzag forms creating triangles that are either filled in with fine, close parallel lines or solid black color. When the pot is turned upside down the negative white space of the bottom becomes the shape of a solid white five-pointed star. Condition: Excellent
