“Xochitlalli,” or the cult of mother earth, is celebrated annually five hundred meters deep underground in the Tzontikomostok grotto, located within the municipality of Tequila Veracruz. Xochitlalli is an indigenous Nahuatl religious rite, in which a hole is dug into the earth and all the fruits that the earth offers to humanity are placed inside this cavity. During this ceremony, the earth is thanked for its bounty and asked for a productive harvest in the current year.
