In Roman mythology, Minerva is the goddess of wisdom, arts, and justice. Here, she stands scantily clad and leaning against her Aegis, which features the head of Medusa. Minerva turned her former priestess, Medusa, into a monster after she discovered Medusa had kissed her competitor, Neptune. After being beheaded by Perseus, he delivered Medusa’s severed head to Minerva.
