Aspasia [Extropection January 2016] (See )

Edvard Munch’s model for this painting commonly known as Madonna, of which there are several versions (at least two are bordered by illustrations of sperm), was Dagny Juel-Przybyszewska, who August Strindberg (one of her lovers) nicknamed “Aspasia”.

Dagny, a Norwegian writer famous for her liaisons with various prominent artists, was an early feminist and freethinker. She was shot dead at the age of 34.

The enigmatic Aspasia, like her, was also an independent and influential woman during the fifth century BC in Athens, being the partner of Pericles and mother of his children.
